  I was listening to My Dixie Darling (Carter Family) when I had the loveliest thought. AP sings the high harmony while Sara holds here excuisite, sonorous baritone, reversing the male and female parts of tradition. Maybelle plays virtuostic guitar, her playing stile being where bluegrass banjo, Travis picking, and rock and roll guitar were born. Sarah is Gil. Dave is AP and Maybelle in one. The original Carter Family and Gillian Welch ( the band) perfectly bookend the span of 20th Century Music.  less
