I don't have an encyclopedic knowledge of folk music, and understand even less about the technical side of where to even find these things (bootlegs) let alone upload and share them. Point being, I started thinking about how much of my wealth of Gillian and David knowledge I owe to the tireless efforts of sponwed . He provided an embarrassment of riches for those of us who would never have freakin' figured it out on our own. I know the blog has been out of commission for some time, but I remain grateful and so very appreciative of his efforts!!  less

The majority of us on here owe our vast collections of Gillian and Dave to sponwed. Both a musical scholar and a gentleman, he had already collected a large portion of his impressive archive before even ever having attended a live performance by the dynamic duo. Now THAT'S devotion! My hat is off to him and a debt is most certainly owed that I'll never be able to fully repay.

I don't know who it was or where they were or what noise they were making. That sound (not to mention the look on his face) was so piercing, it took me a couple songs to recover. I felt that shit! I was outside this stage door too, we probably crossed paths.

There are some light rumples at the top from the way it was rolled into the bag at the show, but has been stored in a tube ever since. If anyone is interested, I will sell for $30.00 and donate 100% to Austin Pets Alive!, one of the organizations currently focused on Hurricane Harvey rescue. (I looked over several and have chosen this one based on their location and mission.) If interested, send me a message! It'll be an additional $7.00 to ship within the US, so $37.00 total, with $30.00 donated. (If no one is interested here, I will list on eBay under as a charitable listing.)

RunningRattie I could swear it was a literal diner, like with "Diner" in the name, specifically in Nashville. They said the name once or twice when introducing Last Pharaoh, but I just can't remember. Thanks for the help!

    Great, great stuff.

I think it's: "The polaroids of Indio" because Indio is a desert town I bet they drive through a lot on the way to LA.

I think it might be: "to chase the Great White Way."

I think it's: "the wheel of St. Columba's" for accuracy's sake.

I've Been Down Before is probably my favorite of her unreleased.  Gillian sings, "I've been pushed around like a candle in the wind" on one of the recordings, but it is usually how you have it, "I've been made to bend."

These lyrics were the ones posted with the YouTube video. "Spindle wide" doesn't make any sense but I wasn't paying much attention when I pasted them.

Oh, and thanks for the chords, Jason.  Those seem to be the same and same capo for the version of Wichita that I know.

in the topic Company Grave Blues? in the forum Gillian Welch and David Rawlings "Guitar Tabs"

Anyone willing to take a stab at the chords for Company Grave Blues?  I absolutely love this song, and only just started playing acoustic guitar two weeks ago, so there is no way I can work this stuff out on my own yet.  Here are the lyrics, and a recording.  There's also a great version that opens the Lexington 1999 show from Spontaneous Wednesday's rocking collection if anyone's got that one.

A company girl of tender age,

A company girl of tender age,

I came to know my mother's trade.

We're up at dark and on the line,

We're up at dark and on the line,

Where morning cracks and spindle wide.

Each night I hear her cough and curse,

Each night I hear her cough and curse,

Through restless eyes, a bedside nurse.

Now by her side, I'll end the chill,   (* I hear, "all damp and chill," but I could be wrong.)

Now by her side, I'll end the chill,

I'll lay her down in a potters field.

I'd rather die and blow away,

I'd rather die and blow away,

Than take my rest in a company grave.

I'd rather die and blow away.

(Incidentally the verses are ordered differently in the live version from 1999... like those better than this.)
